Preparing our children for the future is a daunting task, considering that we cannot possibly know what that future will be. The world of today is very different than the world of 15 years ago or the world of 15 years from now. In order to ensure that our children have the tools for success and fulfillment we must do more than teach the three R's.
While basic core skills are essential, it is equally if not more important that we endow our students with capacities for continued growth, learning, adaptation, communication and self-awareness. While it is critical that students learn their math facts for example, it is also vital they learn how to think mathematically and apply math knowledge to ever changing circumstances. Similarly, while it is crucial for students to learn their phonics, it is imperative for them to learn how to read critically and to discern information that is verifiable as fact from opinion and judgments. And while it is very important for students to be able to learn proper grammar, it is critical that they learn how communicate with others.
 The Oneness-Family School is a place where learning happens from moment to moment and on many different levels. Learning does not just come from books. It comes from interaction with the world and from engaging with the people who surround us. It comes from making connections and generating our own ideas. At Oneness-Family School, there is no concept too large for us to explore. Yet we take the time to absorb the details that often add up to understanding.
